Gloucester fined for ineligible player
Aviva Premiership Rugby club Gloucester have been fined £5,000 and given a suspended two-point deduction for fielding an incorrectly registered player in a Premiership match.
A Rugby Football Union (RFU) panel ruled Argentina lock Mariano Galarza did not hold effective registration when selected for Gloucester's 23-6 Premiership defeat at Sale on March 29.
The panel said the breach "an administrative error" and not done to gain competitive advantage and suspended the points deduction until the end of the 2016-17 season.
Galarza who joined Gloucester in the summer of 2014 made debut only in March due to long-term shoulder trouble.
